An app for subscribing to a collection of apparel products

How would you use CanCan features to build an app like Rent The Runway ?

To build an app like that, you would need the following features:

• The ability to list collections of products that users can subscribe to

• The ability to have third party merchants apply to list their collections on your app

• The ability for third party merchants list and sell subscriptions to their collections on your app

• The ability to take a percentage off of every sale made by third party merchants

• The ability to rate and/or review sellers/products/clients

List products that users can subscribe to

You can create a paywall and add all the apparel products in your catalog to it. As long as users are subscribed to the paywall, they can request to have any item behind the paywall delivered to them provided that send back any item they might have already received from the collection.

Have third party merchants list their collections on your app

You can also let other merchants that want to sell subscriptions to their catalog of apparel products, apply to becoming a partner of the channel in order to be able to list their collections on your channel.

If you setup your channel to only allow permissioned partnerships, you will receive partnership requests from these merchants which you can either accept or reject.

Take a percentage off of every sale made by third parties

When listing their products on their partner walls, third party merchants will be able to specify the percentage they are willing to give you off of each sale they make. In the image below, the user entered 10 in the referrer fee field meaning he/she will be giving you 10% on each sale.

We can also see that the minimum fee allowed by the channel is 0%. You can change this parameter by following the guide on the page below under the Updating The Minimum Partnership Fee section

Rating & Reviewing Catalogs/Clients

To rate a catalog, click on the catalog to go to its product page and enter your rating and review. You can read more about how to do that on the page below:

Reviews
